Spacious, modern and professional
Apex Funeral Home includes 13,000 feet of space. The traditional chapel seats 250 guests in rows of pews. It has vaulted ceilings, lots of light and an enviable audio system. The visitation rooms are equally comfortable, and our merchandising area—which families can browse any time—was the first of its kind in North Carolina.
There's plenty of parking, and a covered portico protects families from rain or snow as they come and go from services. A lounge, open waiting area and gathering spaces, and private family conference rooms provide comfort and convenience.
With more than 100 years of history, we plan to serve many more generations. Our modern yet timeless design, the latest technologies and a compassionate team give families everything they need to celebrate the lives of cherished loved ones.
Personalized funerals and memorials
Every person has a unique story, and we believe that every person deserves to have their story told. Decorating our chapel with a favorite color, displaying beloved photographs and playing treasured tunes are just a few of the countless ways you can honor a loved one.
Our associates are skilled in creating memorable and meaningful tributes. All you need to do is provide the inspiration—we’ll take care of the details. For instance, if he was a skilled equestrian, we could have a procession with horses and give guests personalized horseshoes as keepsakes. Did she spend her winters on the slopes? We could transform our chapel into a winter wonderland and serve après-ski treats like hot chocolate, spiced apple cider and cheese fondue.
We can find inspiration almost anywhere. Just leave the details—no matter how big or small—to our imaginative team.
See how we celebrate life.
Cremation in Apex
There are many options for cremation in the Apex area—and they're not all equal. We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our all-inclusive pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none.
More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:
If you're interested in cemetery placement, our sister cemeteries, Raleigh Memorial Park, Knollwood Memorial Park and Pinecrest Memorial Park, are among the prettiest in the area. They offer scattering, niches and other choices.
And for those who wish for something more momentous, Neptune Memorial Reef is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.

History
Originally known as Carpenter Casket House, Apex Funeral Home was first located about 100 yards east of Good Hope Church Road in Carpenter, North Carolina. Charlie Ferrell and Mal Butts owned the business. Eventually, Mal's son and daughter moved the funeral home to Apex and renamed it Apex Funeral Directors.
Apex Funeral Directors was downtown, on the corner of West Chatham and North Salem streets. In 1964, after moving from Fuquay-Varina, Bob and Polly McIver bought into the funeral home, which was then operated by Ralph Butts and Dwight Johnson. After Ralph's death, Bob and Dwight moved the business to the corner of Olive Chapel Road and Williams Street in June 1965.
Growth and renovation
What was eventually renamed Apex Funeral Home served the families of Wake, Chatham, Durham and Orange counties from this location for 40 years. Kent McIver, Bob’s eldest son, began preparing for the future in 2003. Plans were made to expand and renovate the facility to accommodate the growth Apex and Cary were experiencing.
But after careful consideration, they decided that Apex and Cary were ready for something different. Instead of giving their funeral home a face-lift, they hired an architectural firm to design a new building at the intersection of Highway 55 and Hunter Street. Their state-of-the-art facility opened in 2005.
More than a century of service
For more than 100 years, Apex Funeral Home has provided service excellence to families in Apex and surrounding areas. We strive to uphold the tradition established by our founders while responding to the ever-changing needs of our community.
